Summer Rain Has Left Its Mark

Richmond has seen its share of wet weather this summer, and all that moisture can leave a mark long after the clouds clear. Driveways, siding, roofs, walkways, and commercial exteriors can stay damp, collect runoff, and develop organic buildup, particularly in shaded areas.

That makes late summer a good time to take a closer look around your property. Darkened concrete, green growth, sediment, staining, and slippery walkways may all become more noticeable after repeated periods of rain.

This month, we’re sharing a satisfying residential driveway transformation, taking a look at pressure washing on a much larger commercial scale, and answering a few common questions about caring for exterior surfaces after wet weather.

If summer weather has left your exterior looking a little worse for wear, late August and early September are great times to see what could use some attention.

RESIDENTIAL PROJECT SPOTLIGHT

A driveway is one of the first things you see when you arrive home. This month’s residential project shows just how much of a difference a thorough cleaning can make.

Over time, the concrete became discolored as it accumulated grime and other organic buildup. The Envirowash team treated and cleaned the driveway, removing the accumulated buildup.

What we like about the finished result is that it still looks like the same driveway, with existing cracks and the natural character of the concrete still visible.

Professional cleaning isn’t always about looking new and perfect; sometimes it's the best process to remove what is unwanted so you can bring back a clean, authentic appearance.

COMMERCIAL PROJECT SPOTLIGHT

If you follow us on social media, you may have seen one of our latest projects, the exterior cleaning of a local Amazon fulfillment center.

Residential driveway cleanings provide a distinct before-and-after appearance. But commercial jobs provide a unique set of challenges. You have to consider oil and fluid leaks, tire marks, significant amounts of weather residue, and a larger scale of mildew and algae.

Luckily, Enirowash is always ready to tackle those projects. (And from the look of the video, with a smile on our face as well!)

A property of this scale requires careful planning, consistent cleaning methods, attention to safety, and coordination around the needs of an active commercial facility. That planning is an important part of the job to appropriately fill the needs of that property rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.

The result we strive is to leave behind a property that is cleaner and better equipped to keep up with the high demands of a large commercial property.

HOW DO I KNOW IF I NEED CLEANING NOW?

After a series of continuous rain showers like we've experienced this summer, it does not take long to see the effects on your outdoor spaces. Do your own inspection and consider a cleaning if you see any of the following:

  • Mildew or algae buildup from the persistent storms.
  • Your driveway has runoff or summer grime.
  • Your roof shows signs of algae or other growth.
  • There are piles of dirt and sediment deposited by stormwater.
  • Your business entrance, sidewalks, or parking lots show signs of buildup on concrete or pathways.

Plus, see if it's time for sealing or coating in any of these areas. The sooner any issues are addressed, the easier the buildup is to manage.

ENVIROWASH SPOTLIGHT: FREDDY

We’re excited to shine the spotlight on Alfredo “Freddy” Gonzalez, an important part of our team. Freddy is the “mechanic” behind the trucks, helping keep the vehicles in good working condition so the rest of the team can get the job done safely and efficiently.

Much of Freddy’s work happens behind the scenes, but his role is a big part of keeping things moving. Whether he’s checking the trucks, helping with repairs, or getting his hands dirty with maintenance, Freddy makes sure the team has reliable equipment ready to go. And no matter how much grease he gets covered in, somehow that mustache is always looking fresh!
Freddy is a hardworking and dependable member of the team who isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty to help the crew. We appreciate all the work he puts in behind the scenes and the important role he plays in keeping the team and trucks running!
