February in Richmond brings unpredictable weather, as evidenced by our recent ice storm. But even without the drastic storms, we still experience fluctuations between freezing mornings and sunny, spring-like afternoons, and everything in between. While spring may feel close, winter buildup is still quietly impacting your outdoor spaces. Moisture, organic growth, and debris continue settling into roofing systems, siding, and concrete surfaces. Left untreated, these conditions can shorten the lifespan of materials and lead to avoidable repair costs. This month, we’re focusing on proactive maintenance and preparing properties for a smooth transition into spring. Scheduling now helps you avoid peak-season demand. Below, you’ll find this month’s featured projects along with expert insight on winter cleaning and preventative care. Ready to get a jump on spring maintenance? Reach out anytime to schedule a cleaning. PROJECT SPOTLIGHT:Restoring the Natural Beauty of CedarThis recent project brought new life to a charming backyard retreat featuring cedar shake siding, brick pavers, and a covered pergola patio. Over time, the cedar shingles had developed uneven discoloration and organic buildup, particularly along the lower courses where moisture tends to linger. The brick patio showed embedded dirt within the herringbone joints, muting its effect. We approached this project with a careful soft washing process tailored specifically for wood surfaces. Cedar requires a low-pressure application to remove algae and oxidation without damaging the grain. As the staining lifted, the natural variation and rich tones of the wood became visible again. The brick patio was washed to flush out dirt while protecting the mortar. The difference was immediate, displaying a brighter brick color. We also pride ourselves on the details. We cleaned the pergola ceiling, trim, window boxes, and exterior light fixtures to ensure a consistent finish throughout the space. The teak furniture had become weathered and gray. We gently removed the built-up debris, restoring and brightening the wood grain. The result is a refreshed outdoor living area that feels inviting, well-maintained, and ready for entertaining. Projects like this highlight how gentle and routine cleaning can enhance the longevity of natural materials in your outdoor spaces.
Your roof is one of the most valuable parts of your property and is often one of the most overlooked during winter. Black streaking and discoloration are typically caused by organic growth feeding on roofing materials. Even in colder temperatures, these organisms remain active beneath the surface. Our soft wash roof cleaning process safely removes buildup without high pressure, protecting asphalt shingles and TPO, EPDM, and rubber roofing systems commonly found on commercial buildings. February is an ideal time for roof maintenance. Addressing staining now helps prevent long-term deterioration and prepares your property for spring moisture and pollen, which accelerate growth cycles. Preventative cleaning extends roof life, maintains curb appeal, and protects your investment. Roof Service Benefits
